When is the best time to visit Zambia?
“Zambia trips are best scheduled when it’s easiest to see the wildlife because, apart from Victoria Falls, that’s the major attraction. And the best time for wildlife is the dry season (May to October). At this time of the year, animals tend to hang out near water sources, which makes capturing them on camera easier.
In Zambia, the wet season (November to April) is known as the ‘Emerald season’, named after the infinite shades of green in the luscious bush at this time of year. South Luangwa in particular is mesmerizing during the Emerald Season. However, be aware that many accommodations close at this time of the year, and roads can be in very bad shape. June through August is the best time to see Victoria Falls, as they are at their most spectacular in these months.”

Itineraries
Day 1
Go to South Luangwa National Park after arriving in Zambia
After arriving in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, you will take a domestic flight to Mfuwe and then a private transfer to South Luangwa National Park, the first stop on your safari. The opulent Time + Tide Luwi is where you'll be staying; it's about a two-hour journey from Mfuwe Airport, and you might see some wildlife on the way. With no other campers in sight for miles, Time + Tide Luwi is a solitary camp situated on the banks of the Luwi River. You can unwind in the outside couch while taking in the aroma of African jasmine emanating from adjacent blooms and soothing river noises. Greetings from Zambia.
Day 2
South Luangwa National Park exploration
You'll get up early in the morning to go on morning safaris to see the nocturnal animals while they're still active and before it gets too hot. A rare Thornicroft's giraffe (endemic to Zambia), large herds of elephants, a colourful variety of birds, bathing pods of hippos, and other sights will be pointed out by the camp's award-winning safari guides. Particularly well-known for its outstanding leopard sightings is South Luangwa.
Day 3
Go to Time + Tide Kakuli in South Luangwa National Park.
To reach Time + Tide Kakuli, a cosy resort perched above the Luangwa River, you must go further into South Luangwa. You may observe big game favourites moving in and out of view while lounging on your private veranda. You can also keep an eye out for hippos and crocodiles hiding in the water and look for the brightly coloured feathers of carmine bee-eaters.
Day 4
South Luangwa National Park exploration
As one of the few national parks in Africa to provide night game drives, South Luangwa is another option for you to enjoy. You can see Zambia's nocturnal wildlife on a game drive after dark, particularly elusive leopards and other big cats, which spring to life after sundown. When the sun fades, you'll notice a change in the bush environment, and the yowls and cries of the wildlife will lead you.
Day 5
Go to Mapazi Camp in South Luangwa National Park.
After that, you'll proceed to Mapazi Camp, the third camp in your trio of South Luangwa accommodations, via a game drive transfer. This new camp is situated in one of the best areas for walking safaris. Only three walk-in tents make up this exclusive and secluded site, and all activities are privately guided by Deb Tittle, who has more than 20 years of guiding experience in the South Luangwa.
Day 6-7
Exploring South Luangwa
In order to experience a degree of detail you simply cannot from the safety and luxury of a safari vehicle, you will embark on an adventurous bush walk. As you enter the bush and learn about the intricate ecosystems of the park as well as the strategies employed by experienced safari guides and park rangers to locate wildlife, your senses will be sharpened. As your time in the South Luangwa comes to an end, make sure to take advantage of optional excursions like birding safaris and boat safaris where you can see crocodiles and hippos. In order to get to know the Kunda people and learn about their way of life, you'll visit the nearby town of Kawaza. Additionally, you'll discover more about the incredible conservation efforts in the area.
Day 8
Transfer to Kafue National Park
You'll take a transport back to Mfuwe and a domestic flight back to Lusaka, where you'll take another private journey to Zambia's oldest and largest national park, Kafue. You'll stay at Musekese Camp's lovely thatched-roof huts in a remote corner of the national park, where you can observe wildlife from your private deck.
Day 9-11
Exploring Kafue National Park
The devoted owners of Musekese Camp are Kafue experts, so there are many of opportunities for wildlife watching surrounding this compact camp, particularly bush hikes with high-level guides. You'll begin by going around the lagoon, where you'll observe elephant herds, bush pigs, and uncommon roan antelopes. Sit at one of the riverside shelters to observe animals passing, drinking, and washing. You'll go on a game drive through some of Kafue's best wildlife areas, including the Busanga Plains, where you'll view antelope, elephants, zebras, and lions. Red lechwe, sable, and the African wild dog, as well as the elusive cheetah, are all rare species to look out for. You'll observe hippos splashing in Lake Itezhi-Tezhi and numerous birds in the sky.
Day 12
Depart from Zambia
Unfortunately, your Zambia wildlife trip comes to an end as you return to Lusaka for your flight home. You will, however, depart with a camera full of images and a number of stories to tell loved ones back home, having encountered the greatest of Zambia's species, great and tiny.
